Christopher J. Date

Chris J. Date ( * 1941 ) is a British author, lecturer, researcher and consultant specializing in the theory of relational databases.

Biography

Chris Date attended from 1951 to 1958, the High Wycombe Royal Grammar School and in 1962 received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics from Cambridge University. After his studies, he first worked as a programmer for math problems at the Leo Computers Ltd.. in London, but soon moved to the " Education and Training".

In 1966, he earned his master's degree at Cambridge and in 1967 he began working as an instructor for programming at IBM Hursley. In the years 1967 to 1974, he was one of those responsible for the training program of IBM Europe. While working at IBM, he was involved in technical planning and design of the IBM products SQL / DS and DB2.

He worked at this time with Edgar F. Codd and Hugh Darwen together to develop the concepts of the relational database. In this context, he wrote several books on the subject of data management, especially the "Databases, Types, and the Relational Model ," in which he outlines his concepts for further development of database systems. His book An Introduction to Database Systems is considered a standard work on the subject.
