Christopher Jones (Mayflower Captain)

Christopher Jones (* 1570, † March 1622 ) was the captain of the Mayflower.

His father was a sailor and captain on several sailing ships. Even Christopher Jones was a sailor, but with his own ship. He lived up to his age of 40 in Harwich and then moved according to Rotherhithe. The first ship, with which he drove, was named after his wife " Jasian ". In 1608 he sold the boat and bought with three other investors, the " Mayflower ". The Mayflower was used primarily for the transportation of goods from England to France and returned with a French wine back.

In 1620, the Mayflower was rented with her ​​captain of the Pilgrims. The captain should bring them with their goods in the northern Virginia. The Mayflower stabbed on September 6, 1620 by Plymouth in the lake and reached Cape Cod on November 21, 1620. The ship returned only in May 1621 returned to England. Christopher Jones used the Mayflower even for a trip to France, but died shortly afterwards in March in 1622. He was buried in St. Mary's Cathedral in Rotherhithe.

He had nine children, of which only a few survived childhood.
