Christos Rozakis

Christos Rozakis (Greek Χρήστος Ροζάκης, born May 17, 1941 in Athens ) is a Greek jurist and former Vice- President of the European Court of Human Rights.

Rozakis studied law in Athens and London, at the University of Illinois and the Institute of International Studies in Geneva. From 1980 to 1986 he was Professor of International Law at the University of Athens Pantion and then Professor of International Law at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.

1987 to 1998 he was a member of the European Commission of Human Rights. In 1996, he was Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs in the government of Simitis for a short time.

From 1 November 1998 to 17 May 2011, he was a judge at the European Court of Human Rights. At times, he was one of two Vice-Presidents of the Court.

His scientific publications have their focus in the areas of contract law, law of the sea, human rights and the Greek foreign policy, especially the Greek-Turkish relations.
