Chromium OS

Chromium OS is a Linux distribution with which unlike Google Chrome OS source code is freely available and usable. Chromium OS contains instead of Google Chrome is under the BSD license Chromium browser. New Chrome OS versions are derived respectively from the current state of the Chromium OS development and added a number of commercial programs like Google Chrome, Adobe Flash Player, a PDF plugin, Netflix Instant, and Google Talk.

Differences to " Google Chrome OS"

  • Google Chrome OS has some additional firmware features, including boot and restore functions that require appropriate hardware specification and thus do not work by default in Chromium OS builds.
  • Google Chrome OS runs on specially optimized hardware.
  • Chromium OS does not auto-update, while Google Chrome OS seamlessly performs automatic updates.
  • Google Chrome OS is supported by Google and its partners; Chromium OS is supported by the open source community.
  • Google Chrome OS includes some binary packages that may not be included in Chromium OS project from license restrictions. An incomplete list gives some examples: Adobe Flash

  • Older versions of Chrome OS may contain proprietary Synaptic Touchpad Driver

In addition, Google Chrome OS has a green-yellow- red logo, while consisting of Chromium OS from different shades of blue.
