Chronicle of Monemvasia

As Chronicle of Monemvasia (or Monembasia medium Greek Το χρονικόν της Μονεμβασίας ) is referred to a Byzantine chronicle.

The work just covering the period from the end of the government of Justinian I to the reign of Nikephoros ' I.; later additions were added to 1339. The chronicle was born in Monemvasia in the southern Peloponnese, but the dating of very controversial. Suggestions range from the early 10th to the early 11th century.

The unknown author ( Johannes Koder has tried to equate with Aretha of Caesarea ) shows a special interest for the region of Patras, which is at the center of the action. The Chronicle is an important source regarding the conquest of the Slavs in the Balkans, but the credibility of many statements controversial. The related note, the Slavs had mastered 218 years long from the year 587 to the Peloponnese was long debated and controversial in research. Today, however, tends to keep this information for truthfully.

Narrated the chronicle is in six manuscripts from the 16th century.
