Chrysler Canada

The Chrysler Canada Inc. is the Canadian subsidiary of the U.S. car manufacturer Chrysler. It was founded in 1925 as the Chrysler Corporation of Canada and took over the Maxwell -Chalmers plant in Windsor (Ontario), where Chrysler models were built in the previous year. It was not until the company was called Chrysler Canada, Inc., then DaimlerChrysler Canada Inc., after Daimler and Chrysler had merged. In August 2007 the company was again renamed Chrysler Canada Inc., as Cerberus Capital Management acquired 80 % of shares in the parent company Chrysler LLC.

Chrysler Canada has three plants in Canada and presented in 2002 a total of 535 878 cars and trucks here. 2007, the Company sold 232 688 vehicles in the Canadian market. Currently, Chrysler Canada is number two in the sales statistics, Ford recalls nearly in 3rd place first is the Premier Automotive Group with 14 % market share.

Since Windsor is the location of Chrysler's Canadian headquarters and the Van plant and Oshawa hosts the headquarters of General Motors and two works, there is a friendly rivalry between the two cities to the position of the Canadian auto capital.

Current brands and models

Chrysler Canada offers three brands, Dodge, Jeep and Chrysler. Dodge represents the mid-size car, commercial vehicle and van line, jeep operates the off-road segment and Chrysler, the luxury brand dar. What is remarkable about the Canadian model range that while all models known from the United States are offered, but sometimes under other brand names. So in the early 2000s was, for example, Dodge established not as a car manufacturer, but solely as a manufacturer of commercial vehicles and vans in Canada. After there was no more Plymouth, all car models were marketed as Chrysler. So it was in Canada a Chrysler Neon, a Chrysler Intrepid, etc., vehicles that were marketed in the U.S. exclusively as Dodge. Revised in 2003 to this division and since then the same models as in the U.S. are offered in Canada.
