Chrystian Piotr Aigner

Chrystian Piotr Aigner (* 1756 in Pulawy, Poland, † February 9, 1841 in Florence, Italy) was a Polish architect and architectural theorist of classicism.

Biography

He studied architecture in Italy and in Rome was a member of the Accademia di San Luca. Around 1780 he returned to Poland and worked mainly in Warsaw ( until 1825 ) and Cracow ( until 1827 ). Then he moved back over to Italy. He created numerous buildings in the classical style in Warsaw. Since 1817 he was a professor of architecture at the University of Warsaw. Its construction is dominated by the mature Italian and empiricist classicism, later he also created the romantic classicism which had its roots in Polish architecture, history, and in the Gothic Revival. His most famous work is the theoretical " treatise on ancient and Slavic temples ."
