Chtaura

Chtoura (Arabic شتورا ) is a town in the Bekaa Valley in Lebanon.

It lies between Lebanon ( mountain range ) and the Anti- Lebanon at kilometer 44 on the road from Beirut to Damascus.

Chtaura is a center for banking, transport and trade. The nearest towns are Zahle and Baalbek.

Tannayal

A few kilometers south of Chtaura on the main street of the village is Tannayal ( Aramaic for the grace of God ). It is since 1860 an estate of the Society of Jesus. Exotic birds, including Peacock and Doves can be found here. In addition to animal and crop the farm is also a teaching and research facility of the Faculty of Agriculture Université Saint -Joseph.

History

In August 1962, the Arab League held a shura (Islam) in Chtoura that Shtura Conference from. At this conference, the conflicts that appear to have been related to the dissolution of the United Arab Republic should be negotiated. The Egyptian delegation left the Shura before they had made a decision.
