Chubby Checker

Chubby Checker, civil Ernest Evans ( born October 3, 1941 in Spring Gulley, South Carolina, grew up in Philadelphia ) is an American rock and roll singer.

Chubby Checker founded at the age of eleven, his first music band; learned he had poultry seller. He was discovered at the weekly market, when he sold chickens and incidentally sang his songs. 1959 signed the young Ernest a record deal with the label Cameo - Parkway and got the stage name " Chubby Checker" ( chubby = chubby, plump ) missed. His very first single, " The Class " was a minor hit. Later, having him covered the B- side of Hank Ballard & The Midnighters - single "The Twist". The song was a huge hit: in 1960 it rose to number one and stayed three months on the charts; the accompanying dance was also popular. The following year, he continued his winning streak with "Pony Time" (written by Don Covay and John Berry ) and "Let 's Twist Again". "Slow Twistin ' ", " Limbo Rock" and " Popeye the Hitchhiker" also made him in 1962 as one of the most successful artists.

Until 1966 he had been placed with over 30 titles in the charts, then it went downhill: With the beginning of the Beatles era its merry dance music was no longer in demand and also a half-hearted change of style to folkier tones brought no improvement. After working in small nightclubs and oldie shows it was taken in 1982 by the MCA again under contract and released the moderately successful LP "The Change Has Come ".

His hit "The Twist" came in a revised edition by the Fat Boys in the late 1980s once again back in the charts; Chubby himself toured the pubs and sports halls of the United States. End of the 1990s Checker is returned to his original profession and has founded his own company. He sells snack products, chocolate bars, popcorn, steaks and hot dogs.

Checker is married to the Dutch Catharina Lodders, who was Miss World 1962. With her he has three children and lives in Philadelphia.

On February 12, 2013 Chubby Checker sued the U.S. group Hewlett -Packard for damages in the amount of 500 million U.S. dollars. Reason for the action is a (now pulled from the market ) ( Fun ) App of the Palm OS platform with the homonyms ' Chubby Checker '; safe to do so due to the shoe size to infer the length of a man penis, thereby Chubby Checker sees injured in his name rights and his honor.
