Chuginadak Island

Chuginadak Iceland ( aleutian: Tanax Angunax ) is the second largest of the Islands of Four Mountains, part of the Aleutian archipelago. Chuginadak is an Aleutian name that was mentioned by the captain Tebenkov 1852 in a map. After RH Geoghegan the Aleut word stem " Chugi " means something like " to fry " or " roasting ". The western half of the island is called in Aleut Chuginadax.

The island is about 23 km long. The active stratovolcano Mount Cleveland forms the entire western half of the land mass. A narrow strip of land separates the volcano from the rugged and niedereren eastern side of the island. The only major geographical place is the 4 km long Applegate Cove ( Aleut: Chuguuĝix ) on the north coast. The bay was named after Samuel Applegate by the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey, commanding the schooner Nellie Juan during an exploration of this area in the 1880s.

On the island Chuginadak is next to the Mount Cleveland stratovolcano Mount nor the Tana.
