Chuignes

Chuignes ( Picard: Chuingne ) is a northern French village with 125 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the department of Somme in the Picardie region. The municipality belongs to the canton Chaulnes and is part of the Communauté de communes de Haute Picardie.

Geography

The municipality is located in a small valley ( Vallée de l' Enfer ) south of the Somme around 5 km south-east of Bray- sur -Somme in the département roads D71 and D143.

History

On August 23, 1918 Australian troops attacked during the Second Battle of Albert in association with Allied tank support the site, and took him. It should have been captured by a contemporary report a giant cannon.

The municipality received the Croix de guerre as a distinction from 1914 to 1918.
