Chullo

A Chullo (Spanish tʃuʎo of aymaranisch ch'ullu ) is a knitted earflaps hat. It is also known under the name Inca, Indio or ear flap hat.

Originally Chullo had since pre-Columbian part of the traditional men's clothing in the Andean region and gave the form and pattern information to the social status of the wearer. It spread in the last quarter of the 20th century, initially as a souvenir or third-world stores in the Western world. There she was initially popular in leftist circles as part of the Ethical Fashion and was also worn almost exclusively by women. The hat shape but was soon taken up by the mainstream and often vary in style and material. While the originals from wool of llama, alpaca or sheep are knitted, synthetic fibers also came with a machine or knitted Chullos for use.
