CHUM-FM

CHUM -FM ( 104.5 CHUM FM Today's Best Music ) is a private radio station in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The adult contemporary station is operated by Bell Media Radio and is one of the most popular radio stations in Toronto. It can be received to the south of the U.S. states of New York and Pennsylvania. The transmitting equipment is located in the highest building in Toronto's CN Tower and has an output of 40 kW.

History

CHUM -FM went on 1 September 1963, a power of 18,000 watts broadcasting. The studios were in the 1331 Yongee Street. Initially sent CHUM -FM, a classical music format. On March 21, 1966, an increase in the transmission power of 18,000 to 54,000 watts. 1968 was the sender 's permission to change the transmitter and at the same time to enhance the performance to 100,000 watts. In addition, the station moved to a new building in the Manufacture 's Life Building at 250 Bloor Street East. In July of the same year the station changed its broadcasting format and started with the airing of progressive rock, the predecessor of the well known today, adult album alternative format, that is a great variety of different styles of music.

On December 14, 1973, the radio channel is selected among other broadcasters to install its transmitters on the roof of the CN Tower. The transmitter broadcasting began on 31 May 1976 with a reduced transmission power of 40,000 watts.

1978 extended the transmitter be broadcast format and led the Top 30 singles chart a show. A television broadcast of the Top30 Single Charts was later broadcast by Citytv, which had broadcast the music videos for the singles chart at the time placed. Through the acquisition of Citytv by Rogers Communications, the broadcasting of the Top 30 show was set. In December 1984, the station changed its broadcasting format to Adult Contemporary.

On 26 May 1998 CHUM -FM was granted a license to broadcast in digital audio broadcasting by using the Eureka -147 system. This was also installed at the CN Tower, and sent to the frequency of 1456.34 MHz with a power of 5,084 watts.

Early / mid 2000, the station became the broadcasting of hip- hop, reggae and dance music. The reason for the change in the transmission format resulted from the fact that we wanted to address more younger audience with the transmission format. CHUM -FM began airing the American Top 40

During the celebrations, the Canadian Music Awards, which took place on 8 March 2007, the station CHUM -FM was awarded the radio station of the year.
