Chun Wei Cheung

Chun Wei Cheung ( born April 15, 1972 in Amsterdam, † 14 October 2006 ) was a Dutch rower. He was at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens helmsman of the Dutch rowing eight, who won the silver medal.

Cheung started his footballing career at the Amsterdam Student Rowing Association Nereus. In 1996 he won at the World Championships in Strathclyde with third place in two with coxswain his first World Championship medal.

The greatest success of his career, he celebrated along with the aft of the Netherlands at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. Behind the boat of the United States drove the Dutch to second place and won the silver medal. Also at the helm of the rowing eight Cheung was twice winner of the Grand Challenge Cup at the Henley Regatta.

In August 2006 he participated with the Dutch eighth in Eton to the world championships and was ranked 14th after his return Chun Wei Cheung complained of fatigue. Doctors diagnosed then with him an aggressive form of liver cancer. Two months after the end of the championships Cheung died at the age of 34 years of his illness.
