Church of Saint Maurice (Ebersmunster)

The three towers former abbey church of St. Mauritius ( French: Abbatiale Saint -Maurice ) is the main attraction of the village Ebersmünster at Schlettstadt. The 1727 completed the house of God, a work of Vorarlberg architect Peter Thumb, is considered one of the most beautiful baroque churches in eastern France.

Description

St. Mauritius Church of Ebersmünster emerged as a now defunct Benedictine abbey, the former monastery Ebersmünster, which originally went back to the 7th century and was one of the oldest abbeys in Alsace. The plain exterior of the building, which dates back to an earlier building dating from the 17th century and is connected in its rectangular floor plan still medieval form of language are inside a magnificent interior design and furnishings.

Construction

In 2004 (Tour of païens, Heidenturm called ) were found cracks in the walls of the rear tower. Checks showed that the foundations of the tower is no longer supported enough and this was the medium in danger of collapse. 2007 saw the local government provisionally steel beams as external restraints on the tower at. After lengthy cost calculation and allocation to state, region, department and municipality began on January 29, 2009 construction for the permanent consolidation and restoration of the tower, which was completed in 2010.

Silbermann organ

In the church there is also a 1730-1732 by Andreas Silbermann built organ, which is one of the best preserved works by the famous organ builder. It has been carefully restored 1997-1999. The instrument has 28 stops on three manuals and pedal. Worth mentioning is the echo chamber with short range.
