Church of Saints Cosmas and Damian, Stade

The Church of St. Cosmae et Damiani ( actually correct Ss. Cosmae et Damiani, since it has two names cartridge ) is one of the two main churches of the Evangelical Lutheran Hanseatic city of Stade. It is most often called into the Stade only Cosmaekirche or St. Cosmae.

History

St. Cosmae was built in the second half of the 13th century in the style of brick Gothic architecture and is named after the Saints Cosmas and Damian.

The present building is the result of various extensions and conversions, especially of the 17th century. Landmark in the city is the octagonal tower with its baroque dome. It is 62.45 meters high without weathervane.

Inside impressed with the many figures Baroque altar by Christian Precht ( 1674-77 ). Also worth visiting is the medieval altarpiece in the Gertrudenkapelle.

Organ

The large organ, built in the years 1668 to 1673, is a work of Berendt Huss and his nephew Arp Schnitger. The latter replaced in 1688 four registers his Master with new ones. Changes were 1727/28 made ​​by Otto Diedrich Richborn. More tags with interventions in the original substance made ​​from, 1781. During the years 1972-1975 the organ was reconstructed consuming, composed of the Expert Committee for the Hanover Church.
