Church of São Francisco (Porto)

The Igreja de São Francisco ( German: Church of Saint Francis ) is a church in the belonging to the World Heritage old town of Porto in Portugal. The construction of the church began in 1383 and completed in 1425. The church was built as a church by the local Franciscan friary in mainly in Gothic style in the 17th and 18th centuries, largely rebuilt in the Baroque style. Belonging to the Church monastery was destroyed in 1833 during the Miguelistenkrieges. At the monastery due to the Stock Exchange Palace ( Palácio da Bolsa ) was built in 1834. Many publications on this church emphasize that an extraordinary number of devices were coated with gold. The church is open to visitors. It is used for cultural, but not for religious purposes.
