Church of the Primacy of St. Peter

Referred to the primacy Chapel, also known as mensa Domini ( " table of the Lord " ), is located directly on the shore of the Sea of Galilee in Galilee in Israel. It forms the eastern part of the pilgrimage area in Tabgha.

The chapel marks the site adopted by the tradition, to be published on the Jesus on the lake after his resurrection, and to have dined with his disciples, in which Peter was commissioned (Jn 21 EU); while the spoken three times, "Feed my lambs " means according to the Catholic understanding next to the " keyword " (Matthew 16.18 to 19 EU), the "fishers of men word" ( Lk 5,10 EU ) and the "Strengthening word" ( Lk 22,31 -32 EU ) authorizing of Peter and his successors with the primacy.

Presumably, the current chapel is the sixth church in this place. Even the pilgrim Egeria mentioned in the 4th century a church, led to the lake from the dug on the sea side in the rocks twelve stages - remains of which are likely to be identical to today's levels. Another church was built in the 5th century, but probably destroyed during the Persian Storm 614. However, their ruins are the foundation for all other churches. The fourth building was the end 7 / built in the early 8th century. The fifth church is mentioned by the Russian abbot Daniel (1106 ), but soon after a Norwegian (rod ) church at the time of the Crusaders follows. However, this had only a short time because it was destroyed in 1263 by the Mamluk Baibar. The present building was built in 1933 and renovated in 1982. In contrast to the multiplication of the loaves church there is the chapel of black basalt. The interior is dominated by a large block of stone on which the meal is said to have taken place. Is looked after the chapel and the estate since 1889 by Italian Franciscans.
