Church of the United Brethren in Christ

The Church of the United Brethren in Christ (English Church of the United Brethren in Christ ) is a Christian church with an episcopal church constitution, Arminian theology and roots in the German-speaking Mennonite and Reformed congregations in Pennsylvania of the 18th century.

It was founded in 1800 in the United States by Philip William Otterbein ( 1726-1813 ) and Martin Boehm ( 1725-1812 ).

1889 there was a split between a liberal and a conservative majority minority. The majority faction joined in 1946 with the Methodist Evangelical United Brethren Church to form the Evangelical community together, which in turn in 1968 united with the Methodist Episcopal Church to the United Methodist Church.

The minority faction exists today as an independent denomination, the in fifteen countries has about 550 municipalities with 47'300 members.
