Churches Conservation Trust

The Churches Conservation Trust is a non-profit organization in the UK, which has set itself the task of preserving historic church buildings that are no longer used by the Church.

The Trust was founded in 1969 as Redundant Churches Fund, a legal basis was the Pastoral Measure of 1968. Therein the task of the Trust has been defined as " the preservation of churches, parts of churches, as well as their facilities, where they are handed over to the Fund that of historical or archaeological interest or architectural quality, in the interest of the nation and the Church of England ". The financing by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and the Church Commissioners, with their funding is not sufficient and additional donations must be raised from other sources.

Today ( 2013) manages the Fund more than 340 churches. At first, is the preservation of the building from further decay in the foreground. Most churches are indeed unused but not desecrated and there are occasional services are held. Other uses are concerts, exhibitions and educational projects.

The churches of the trust of nearly 2 million visitors are visited annually.
