Churchill-class submarine

The Churchill - class nuclear -powered hunting were a class submarines (SSN ) of the Royal Navy.

This class includes three boats.

  • HMS Churchill ( S46) Launched: December 20, 1968
  • HMS Conqueror ( S48) Launched: August 28, 1969
  • HMS Courageous (S50 ) Launched: March 7, 1970

Were built all three ships of Vickers Shipbuilding and Engineering.

History

The Churchill class is the improved version of the Valiant class. It is named after former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, Admiral. Like all nuclear submarines could dive an unlimited time. The most famous boat of the class was the HMS Conqueror ( S48), they took part in the Falklands War and sank the Argentine cruiser ARA General Belgrano (C -4). The Conqueror was put out of service in 1990.
