Chusovoy

Tschussowoi (Russian Чусовой ) is a city in the Perm region (Russia) with 46 735 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city is located on the western edge of the Ural Mountains, about 150 km north- west of the regional capital Perm at the mouth of Wilwa in the USWA and the latter in the Chusovaya, a left tributary of the Kama.

Tschussowoi is the region administratively subordinated directly and as the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons.

The town lies on the railway line Perm - Yekaterinburg, from which a branch line to Solikamsk branches here (Station Chusovaya ).

History

In place of the present town since the 16th century the village was known Kamassino. A significant upturn took the place in 1874 in connection with the construction of the Ural mining Railway (Russian Уральская Горнозаводская железная дорога / Ural Gornosawodskaja schelesnaja doroga ) Perm - Kushva ( Goroblagodatskaja ) Yekaterinburg, the first the Urals traversing railway line, as here, the Chusovaya station ( named after the river ) was born. 1878, the line was opened, the following year the branching route Solikamsk here.

1879 also began the construction of the ironworks Tschussowskoi Zavod. The place was called now Tschussowoje, received after 1917 the status of urban-type settlement and 1933 in the present form of the name of a town.

Culture and sights

The city has a museum of local history. Nearby, the river USWA, there is a komi permjakischer grave mound and remains of the settlement Teljatschi Brod from the 9th to the 14th century.

Economy

The main business of the city is the product obtained from the old ironworks Tschussowskoi metallurgischeski industrial complex. There are also other establishments for metalworking and mechanical engineering, woodworking and construction industry and the food industry.
