Chyetverikov MDR-6

The Tschetwerikow MDR -6 (Russian Четвериков МДР -6, NATO reporting name: Mug), also known as the Czech 2 ( Че -2), was a three-seater soviet flying boat. The abbreviation MDR are of specific use information: Morskoi Dalni Raswedtschik ( Морской Дальний Разведчик ) stands for naval reconnaissance.

Development

The prototype was powered by two M- 25E radial engines and was completed in the summer of 1937. His first flight took place in December the same year. In 1939 the factory 31 in Taganrog the production of the MDR -6A - Series with M -62 engines, which ran until 1941 and, minus the prototypes had 25 machines. The machine sat there through against the Beriev MDR -5. Igor Tschetwerikow led then by some improvements to the model. He changed the hull bottom and the design of both float retractable. The bug was changed whereby the MG mount was eliminated and the tail now consisted of two vertical tail - end disks at the Y- shaped elevator.

From this titled as MDR -6B version existed five prototypes were equipped with in-line engines. They were tested between 1941 and 1945. Series production was not performed since the plane despite higher performance engines the demands of the Soviet Navy was not enough.

The MDR -6 stood until the mid-1950s in the military service and was then replaced by the Beriev Be -6.
