Ciampi Cabinet

The Cabinet Ciampi ruled Italy on 28 April 1993 to 9 May 1994. Previously ruled the Cabinet Amato I, then in the following 12th legislative period, the Cabinet Berlusconi I. The government of Prime Minister Carlo Azeglio Ciampi was supported by the following parties in parliament:

  • Christian Democracy (DC)
  • Partito Socialista Italiano ( PSI)
  • Democratic Party of the Sinistra (PDS )
  • Partito Socialista Democratico Italiano ( PSDI )
  • Partito Liberal Italiano ( PLI)
  • Federazione dei Verdi ( FdV )
  • Partito Repubblicano Italiano ( PRI)

During the collapse of the old party system, the Ciampi government continued the renovation work of the previous government. Prime Minister Ciampi was before his appointment, a governor of the Italian Central Bank, he was elected in recognition of his achievements as prime minister and later as president of Finance in 1999.

Shortly after the swearing in of the Cabinet Ciampi, the Ministers of left democratic PDS and the Greens resigned. They were protesting against the attitude of Parliament, which would not lift the immunity of former Prime Minister Bettino Craxi. These ministers were replaced by non-party experts.
