Cianciana

Cianciana is a city in the province of Agrigento in the Italian region Sicily, with 3515 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012).

Location and data

Cianciana located 44 km northwest of Agrigento. The main economic activities are agriculture and the extraction of mineral salts.

The neighboring municipalities are Alessandria della Rocca, Bivona, Cattolica Eraclea, Ribera and Sant'Angelo Muxaro.

History

Cianciana was founded in 1640 and had at that time the name of Sant ' Antonio di Cianciana. After sulfur was found in the 19th century in the neighboring towns, the city developed.
