Ciao

Ciao [ tʃao̯ ] or chau eingedeutscht is an originally Italian Greeting of informal communication, but also could hold outside Italy feet and is used here in the same or similar meaning. In German, except partially in German Switzerland, the use of common only as a farewell - perhaps because of sound similarity to bye - but not as welcome, while in Italy, the greeting is used in both situations.

The word originated from the Venetian 's ciàvo " ( your) servant ". Related on Latin servus ( " slave" ) are based forms of greeting.
