Cibola County, New Mexico

Cibola County is a county located in the northwestern part of the U.S. state of New Mexico in the United States. It has 27 213 inhabitants. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Grants.

Geography

The county has an area of ​​11,763 square kilometers; which includes 6 square kilometers (0.06 percent) of water. The county is bordered clockwise to the County: McKinley County, Sandoval County, Bernalillo County, Valencia County, Socorro County, Catron County and Apache County ( Arizona).

History

The Cibola County was formed on 19 June 1981 from parts of Valencia County and is the youngest county in New Mexico.

According to the census of 2000, there were 25 595 people in the county. There were 8,327 households and 6,278 families. The population density was 2 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 39.61 % White, 0.96 % African American, 40.32 % Native American, 0.38 % Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander residents from the and 15.44 % from other races groups; 3.24% were descended from two or more races. 33.42 % of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 8,327 households out of which 38.00 % have children under the age of 18 living with them. 50.60 % were married couples living together, 18.30 % had a female householder with no husband. 24.60 % were non-families. 21.10% of all households and 7.30 % had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.95 and the average family size was 3.41 persons.
