CIECAM02

A color appearance model (English Color Appearance Model) attempted to describe the appearance of a color under certain viewing and illumination conditions with colorimetric methods. An essential part of most color appearance models is a model for chromatic adaptation.

The basic approach in a color appearance model is the distinction between absolute color ( engl. unrelated color), and relative color ( engl. related color). At a relative color of the reference to other colors, eg, drawn to a reference white into consideration. The color brown is, for example, can only be understood as a relative color as the corresponding absolute color is orange (brown is a dark orange).

Known examples of color appearance models are CIECAM97s and its successor CIECAM02. CIELAB self can be construed as a color appearance model.
