Cihai

The Cihai (Chinese辞海/辞海, Sea of Words ') is a modern comprehensive glossary and dictionary for individual characters and multi-syllabic terms of the Chinese language.

It was the first time in 1936 by Shu Xincheng (舒 新城) compiled and published by Verlag Zhonghua Shuju in Shanghai. In quasi- encyclopedic manner it treats different fields of knowledge: science, philosophy, history and many others.

The Cihai is the most popular and for many areas of knowledge relevant normative lexicon in China and one of the most important modern tools of Western Sinology.

The Cihai contains vocabulary from various fields, such as Philosophy, history, medicine, law, chemistry, religion, mathematics and other areas, and thus a comprehensive encyclopedic dictionary.

The Cihai edition of 2009 contains about 127,000 terms and 22 million words, equivalent to an extension of 10 % hinbezüglich the 1999 edition. It also contains more than 18,000 color photos.

The Da- Cihai issue of the end of 2008 contains approximately 300,000 words and 500 million words in 38 volumes.
