Cilofungin is an antifungal agent from the group of echinocandins. It inhibits cell wall biosynthesis in some Candida albicans species. Due to the toxicity of the carrier development was stopped in phase II (manufactured by Eli Lilly & Co.).

Pharmacology

Cilofungin inhibits the glucan, which is responsible for the formation of beta -1-3 -glucan, a major component of most of the pathogenic fungi. Thus, the cell wall becomes unstable. In addition, the mycelial growth is inhibited, blocking the uptake of N-acetylglucosamine in the mycelium.
