Cinavia

Cinavia (also Verance Copy Management System for Audiovisual Content, short VCMS / AV ) is a copy protection that has been developed by the company Verance and is since 2009 part of the AACS DRM system, which is used in recordable and prerecorded optical media.

Cinavia is based on an analog watermark, which is mixed into the audio track of the video file. There are two variants. The first variant is to prevent the playback of recorded at a theatrical release and a Blu -ray Disc ( BD) fired films. In this case, the watermark contains the information that a movie is only for a movie idea. If such a film played on a private BD player, the copy protection system detects an error. After ten minutes, the clay or the entire image to be switched off. The second variant of the watermark is used for detecting illegal copies of a BD itself For this information in the watermark of the audio track deposited with which the key of the AACS system can be recognized on the original BD. When creating an illegal copy of a BD said keys are removed. If such a copy again burned to a BD and then play the BD player recognizes in the media playback that the watermark matching keys are missing. The BD is not original and therefore in turn is followed by a shutdown of picture or sound after ten minutes.

All current BD player must since February 1, 2012, the watermark can detect the AACS conditions accordingly. Old equipment and playback software are not affected by this copy protection. The watermark itself is very robust and remains visible even after the trans codes.
