Cincinnati Mohawks

The Cincinnati Mohawks were an American ice hockey franchise in the American Hockey League in Cincinnati, Ohio. The venue of the Mohawks was the Cincinnati Gardens.

History

The franchise of the Cincinnati Mohawks was recorded for the season 1949/50, as an expansion team in the American Hockey League. After the Mohawks still missed the playoffs in each of their first two AHL seasons, they reached in the season 1951/52, the second round in which they were subject to the Providence Reds in the best- of-five series with 1:3. Previously, Cincinnati had decided with a sweep the best- of-five series against the Buffalo Bisons for themselves.

Before the season 1952/53, the Mohawks were transferred to the International Hockey League, in which they won in their first five seasons at once each the Turner Cup as playoff winner. They were also 1958 point- best team in the regular season. Despite this success, the franchise was disbanded in 1958.

The gap that was left by the Cincinnati Mohawks, filled the AHL clubs Cincinnati Swords (1971-1974) and Cincinnati Mighty Ducks (1997-2005), and the Cincinnati Stingers of the World Hockey Association (1975-1979) and the Cincinnati Cyclones, which from 1992 to 2001 to 2004, also played in the IHL, as well as from 1990 to 1992 and 2001 in the ECHL in which they are represented again since 2006.
