Cincinnati Swords

The Cincinnati Swords were an American ice hockey franchise in the American Hockey League in Cincinnati, Ohio. The venue of the Swords were the Cincinnati Gardens.

History

In 1971, founded a year earlier Buffalo Sabres received from the National Hockey League the opportunity own a farm team in the American Hockey League to set up. After plans for the Sabres a franchise in Florida were to settle failed to Buffalo chose Cincinnati, Ohio, as the site for the new AHL franchise and renamed the team based on their own behalf, in Cincinnati Swords. Already in their first AHL season reached the Swords the playoffs, broke down in the second round but with 2:4 victories at the Baltimore Clippers. The following year, Cincinnati won for the first and only time the Calder Cup after they defeated the Nova Scotia Voyageurs in the finals 4-1. The 1973/74 season, was eliminated in the Cincinnati in the first playoff round, was the last season for the Swords before the franchise was dissolved. Reason for the adjustment of gaming operations was the establishment of franchises of the World Hockey Association in Cincinnati, the Cincinnati Stingers.
