Cincinnati Wings

The Cincinnati Wings were an American ice hockey franchise of the Central Professional Hockey League from Cincinnati, Ohio.

History

The franchise took in 1963 as one of five founding members of the match operation of the inaugural Central Professional Hockey League. First, the team had its headquarters in Indianapolis, Indiana, where she played as a farm team of the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League under the name Indianapolis Capitals at Pepsi Coliseum. The name was chosen on the basis of an eponymous franchise, which had been active from 1939 to 1952 in the American Hockey League. After nine matchdays in its premiere season the team but was forced to relocated from the Detroit Red Wings since the stadium was severely damaged by a gas explosion during a figure skating show in which 74 people died and from then on could no longer be used.

The Red Wings moved their farm team finally to Cincinnati, Ohio, and changed the name in accordance with their own name in Cincinnati Wings. The season did not go as expected and there were only twelve of the 72 games are won. This missed the Cincinnati Wings only one of the five teams to the playoffs for the Adams Cup. After the season the team was to Memphis, Tennessee, resettled, where they henceforth participated under the name Memphis Wings in the game operation of CPhl.
