Cinder track
With cinder track in general usage the default 400 -meter oval track of a comprehensive athletics stadium is often referred to. The name is derived from the original and still widely used flooring. This consists of a gravel or slag bed with a deep rolled top layer of a ash or sand mix.
In a narrower sense are called cinder track the flooring to distinguish it from the more modern Tartan linings made of plastic.
