Ciney is a city and a municipality in the province of Namur in the Walloon region of Belgium.

The municipality consists of the villages Ciney Achêne, Braibant, Chevetogne, Conneux, Leignon, Pessoux, Serinchamps and Sovet.

Economy

The local brewery with the varieties Ciney Blonde, Brune and Ciney Ciney Spéciale was taken over in 2000 by the brewery Alken-Maes.

Twinning

Since 1962, a partnership with the French community Semur -en- Auxois. There is also a partnership between the district and the French wine-growing Leignon Meursault.

Culture and sights

A private castle from the 19th century neo-Renaissance houses since 1939, the internationally renowned Benedictine Chevetogne.

Sports

The 8th stage of the Tour de France in 1970 led 233 km from Ciney in the Saarland Felsberg.

Events

On 14 July 2010 crashed due to a heavy storm a the roof of the tower of the old collegiate church of Ciney. 180 houses were damaged.
