Cingulate cortex
The cingulate gyrus (from Latin gyrus, Swirl ' and cingulum, girdle ' or ' Gürtelwindung ') is a part of the brain and functionally belongs to the limbic system. It is a structure of the telencephalon ( telencephalon ), above the corpus callosum (bar ), which connects the medial -lying parts of the hemispheres together.
The cingulate gyrus is composed of four sections:
- Pars anterior = Brodmann 's area 24
- Pars posterior = Brodmann 's area 23
- Subcallosal area = Brodmann 's area 25
- Cingulate motor areas = Brodmann 's area 32
In the medulla of the cingulate gyrus, a long associative circuit, the cingulum runs. It ends in the cortex of Subiculums the hippocampal formation.
Surgical transection of the cingulate gyrus is called cingulotomy.
