Cinquecento

Cinquecento (Italian [ tʃinkwetʃɛnto ] for five hundred) in the history of Italian art and literature, the traditional name of the 16th century. It refers to the art style (see Renaissance ), which developed during this period.

This is the name the artists and writers of the 16th century Cinquecentisti. Included among the founders and masters of this new style: in the fine arts as Donato Bramante, Michelangelo, Raphael, Correggio, Titian, Benvenuto Cellini, and in the poetry of Francesco Berni, Ludovico Ariosto, Torquato Tasso, Bernardo Tasso, Niccolò Machiavelli and other.

The centuries found in the Italian mutatis mutandis with Duecento, Trecento, Quattrocento, Cinquecento, Seicento, and in the sense of continuing designation.
