Cipressa

Cipressa ( in Ligurian: CIPRESSA ) is a municipality with 1268 inhabitants ( as at 31 December 2012) in the northern Italian region of Liguria. Politically it belongs to the province of Imperia. It not only covers the main town Cipressa even the few miles above lying on a hilltop car-free mountain village Lingueglietta.

Geography

Cipressa situated on the Riviera di Ponente at a distance of about 13 kilometers from the provincial capital of Imperia. The municipality consists of the hilltop Cipressa nucleus and the settlements Lingueglietta and the lying on the coast districts Piani and Aregai.

According to the Italian classifications for seismic activity, the community of Zone 2 has been assigned. This means that Cipressa is in a seismically active zone moderate to strong.

Climate

The municipality is classified under climate category D, as the number of degree days has a value of 1694. This means that in Italy legally regulated heating season is between November 1 and April 15 for twelve hours per day.

Cycling

In international cycling Cipressa is widely known by the bicycle race Milan - Sanremo. Once a year on the first Saturday in spring pass the racer the place, the slope of the Via Aurelia up racing is often crucial.
