Circus (English for " circus " ) is a song by American pop singer Britney Spears from her sixth studio album Circus, which was produced by Dr. Luke and Benny Blanco.
Background
On 31 October 2008 Circus was written as the second single from the same album on Spears' official website announced the song and was produced by Dr. Luke and Benny Blanco. He is in the R & B and electropop classify this area. Furthermore, the song got positive reviews in advance.
After the previous Womanizer # 1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot reached 100, the single Circus as the first single from Spears could thus debut with 212,000 digital copies sold in 3rd place and in the top 5 of the U.S. Billboard 100. In the meantime, could more than 2.5 million copies of the single in the U.S. are sold, which meant two times platinum and gold 1 times, or 2.5 times platinum. Circus was thus able to carry on from the success of the previous single and is even Spears' second most successful single in the U.S. ever, right after Womanizer.
In addition, the single was at number 2 of the Canadian as well as # 6 on the Australian singles chart. In Sweden, the single peaked at # 8 In Germany, the song failed to 11th place just the top ten in Austria (No. 15) and Switzerland ( # 19 ) reached the top 20 per Circus and was therefore not in German-speaking build on the success of Womanizer.
No. 1 on the singles chart was able to achieve, among others, in Turkey, Israel, Singapore and Brazil Circus.
Circus was used as the theme song for the 4th season of Germany's Next Top Model from 12 February to 21 May 2009.
Music Video
In the music video the circus theme was to match the title, highlighted. Spears manager Larry Rudolph confirmed that Francis Lawrence directed that already for the clip of I'm a Slave 4 U ( 2001) undertook, but is Am Legend with Will Smith also responsible for the hit movie I.
In the video, Spears is showing, among other things with elephants and lions; Lawrence also worked a lot with headlights that illuminate Spears, the dancers and extras of the clip. The video was shot from 28 October to 2 November 2008.
Reviews
The single received by Billboard consistently positive criticism. Thus we read: "With Circus is Spears went into the hands of the gifted Dr. Luke (Pink, Katy Perry ), the embedding them into an electronic cyber - pop landscape, while Spears lines like" There's only two types of guys out there / Ones did can hang with me and ones did are scared " spits out. You have to love it. During her life often resembles a circus, always has access to the public, it seems that Spears is now the ringleader and not just the main attraction. "
Live performances
Britney Spears singing Circus on December 2, 2008 in the American talk show Good Morning America along with Womanizer. She was wearing a punk shirt, leather jeans, a small cloth vest and a top hat. Circus was also an integral part of Britney's " The Circus Starring: Britney Spears " tour ( 2009). At every concert Britney Circus always sang the first song. The costumes were very different and unusual and varied from concert to concert. The opening performance of Circus always began with a video message in which Perez Hilton as Queen Elizabeth I, the audience welcomed and welcomes them to the circus. In the middle of the video message the screen is surrounded by a cylinder, which is getting bigger, then Britney Spears appears in the video and shoots Hilton with a crossbow. As the video ended came Spears with a platform from the ceiling onto the stage, she wore a Leopardenperrücke with headdress and the cylinder, red circus clothes, small black leather pants, high heels and a whip as ringmaster. Spears singing Circus every time as a circus director. While Spears Circus sang, presented acrobats on stage after a circus show. At the end of the performance Spears withdrew more from their circus clothes and presented himself as a slave. Then Spears went through the stage where smoke rose to a golden cage and sang Piece of Me It's also part of her current Las Vegas show Britney: Piece of Me
