The Commonwealth of Independent States ice hockey team (CIS ) occurred in the 1992 Winter Olympic Games in Albertville in hockey for the United team and became Olympic champion.

History

The national ice hockey team of the CIS was founded in 1992 to represent the United team, a selection of athletes from Member States of the Commonwealth of Independent States in the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville. First, the team played in January 1992, three friendlies against Austria, Canada and Italy. Subsequently, the National took in their Olympic preparations at the Nissan Cup in part in Switzerland, where she surprisingly the host, the Swiss national ice hockey team, was subject to full strength with 0:3 in the final.

The Winter Olympic Games were eventually dominated by the CIS team, which reached seven wins in eight games and only one defeat suffered ( a 3:4 against Czechoslovakia ). Finally, the team was a 3-1 final victory over Canada Olympic champion.
