Cisco is a city in Eastland County in the U.S. state of Texas in the United States.

Geography

The city is located in the northwest of the county, in north-central Texas on Interstate 20 and U.S. Highway 183 and has a total area of 12.6 km ² without significant water surface.

History

The city was founded in 1878 or 1879, when Reverend CG Stevens came to the area and opened a church and a post office. At that time he called the boundary settlement Red Gap. 1881, the rails of the Houston and Texas Central Railway were laid, the near Red Gap crossed a year earlier built railway line of the Texas and Pacific Railway, to which the settlement was moved to the intersection of the two railway lines.

Three years later, the town was officially listed and a new post office was opened. The city was named after John A. Cisco, a New York financier and in charge of the Houston and Texas Central Railway.
