Cista Provo

Cista Provo is a village and the center of the homonymous municipality in the south of Croatia in the Split-Dalmatia County. According to the census of 2011, the municipality of the town has 2,335 inhabitants, 469 inhabitants. The municipality also includes Aržano, Biorine, cista Velika, Dobranje and Svib.

Geography

Cista Provo is located in the Dalmatian hinterland at the intersection of state roads D39 and D60. About the D39 can be reached within 11 km the A1 motorway and 20 kilometers of the Adriatic coast at Dubci. Imotski is 27 km away, Split 67 km.

Attractions

In the area around cista Provo tumuli of the Illyrians are obtained which settled here from the 10th century BC. Finds from the Roman period show the importance of the location on the trade route between Salona and Narona. In Mandarići, five kilometers north-west of cista Provo, the remains of a three-nave early Christian basilica were found dating from the 5th century. On the road to cista Velika there are a number of medieval grave stones of the Bogomils.
