The paint - Rockrose (Cistus ladanifer ) is a plant of the genus Cistus (Cistus ) in the family of rockrose ( Cistaceae ).

Features

The resinous aromatic odor, sparrig - branched shrub is strongly glandular - sticky and reaches stature heights up to 250 cm. The up to 10 cm long and about 2.5 cm wide leaves are arranged opposite constantly and almost sessile. They are of linear - lanceolate shape. Under hand, they are hairy white tomentose, upper side glabrous dark green and shiny.

The flowers are individually and measure approximately 7 to 10 cm in diameter. The three sepals are ciliated at the edge and glandular - sticky. The five petals are white and yellow with dark purple at the base often stains. The fruit is spherical capsule six to zehnfächrig.

Bloom time is from April to June.

Occurrence

The paint - Rockrose is widespread in the western Mediterranean in the Iberian Peninsula, France and North West Africa. In the Canary Islands this species has been introduced.

As the site Macchien, light open woodland and chalk-free, acidic soils are preferred.

Others

The botanical name suggests that this species also produces the resin myrrh.
