Citey

Citey is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Citey situated at an altitude of 210 m above sea level, 3 km north-northwest of Gy and about 28 km northwest of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located in the southwest of the department, in the basin of the Saone, north of the river the Morte in the plane of Gy.

The area of ​​5.76 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the rolling countryside of south-east of the Saône. The southern boundary runs along the Morte, which provides for drainage west to the Saône. The valley is on average 200 m and has fertile alluvial soils, which are used for agriculture. From the course of the river Morte, the municipality's area extends northward into the weakly in relief landscape of the Petits Bois de Gy, which is composed of Tertiary deposits. With 257 m find the highest mountains of Citey is achieved. History

Is first mentioned Citey in 1253. During the Middle Ages the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. An important noble family, who built here two castles, named after Citey. Both castles were destroyed in 1595 by troops commanded by Louis de Beauvau. Together with the Franche -Comté Citey came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Today Citey is a member of the 20 localities comprehensive community association Communauté de communes des Monts de Gy.

Attractions

The village church of Citey was built in the 18th century. From the 19th century, the former mill village on the output comes towards Gy, which was operated by the waters of Morte.

Population

With 98 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Citey one of the smallest municipalities in the department of Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1881 186 persons were still counted ), a slight population growth was recorded since the mid-1970s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Citey was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a secondary road that leads from Gy after Angirey. Another road connection with Bucey -lès- Gy.
