Citizen Left

Partido Izquierda Cristiana de Chile (IC ) is a left-wing party in Chile, which was created on 24 October 1971, a spin-off of the Christian Democratic Party of Chile from 1971 to 1973 and part of the coalition government of Salvador Allende was. She was the party of the coalition, the most identified with liberation theology. Today, the party is (besides PCCH ) is a component of the party alliance Juntos Podemos Más.

History

After the majority of the deputies and senators of the Christian Democratic Party distanced more and more from the Marxist policies of the government of Salvador Allende, the left edge of the party, to separate from this, to form their own party and join the government decided.

On July 31, 1971 Bosco Parra explained that he saw no future for the left- Christian positions within the Christian Democratic Party. He was supported by six Members of Parliament ( Fernando Buzeta, Jaime Concha, Alberto Jaramillo, Luis Maira, Pedro Urra and Pedro Videla ), as well as by Luis Badilla, secretary of the Christian Democratic youth organization. One of the founders was Rafael Agustín Gumucio ( 1967 to 1969 president of the Christian Democratic Party ). The newly founded Izquierda Cristiana was a member of the Unidad Popular. She proclaimed to be a party of Christian and humanist tradition, and to be for the construction of socialism. In the Popular Unity Party tended to more radical wing (such as the left-wing majority of the then Socialist Party and the MAPU ).

After the military coup in 1973, the party was banned. After the return to democracy, the party tried to organize again, but the most important politicians came in 1989 with the Socialist Party of one.

Presence

The Izquierda Cristiana also exists today and has been reintroduced in the Register of Political Parties after 1989 was removed from the register because they could achieve when choosing too few votes. She works closely with the Communist Party and the Humanist Party within the party alliance Juntos Podemos Más. At the party congress in 2006, the Izquierda Cristiana established its ideological foundations and pleaded for the liberation theology and to build a socialist and anti- capitalist society.
