Citroen Xsara (1997-2000)

The Citroën Xsara is a model of the French car manufacturer Citroen.

It was introduced in September 1997 and replaced the Citroën ZX. In February 1998, the coupe followed, the combi break came in April on the market. A compact MPV yet was presented as a Xsara Picasso in December 1999.

Karosserievarianten

The Xsara there were four body types:

  • Five-door hatchback ( Berline; September 1997 to November 2004 )
  • Three-door hatchback (Coupe, from February 1998 to November 2004 )
  • Five-door station wagon (break, from April 1998 to May 2006 )
  • Five-door compact MPV ( Xsara Picasso, from December 1999 to January 2010 )

Facelift

In October 2000, a facelift was performed on the Xsara. Were changed especially Details: visible from the outside are for example the modern, drawn farther back headlamps, a new chrome chevrons logo at the rear ( which was not previously available), a larger chrome chevrons logo on the radiator grille and the from front to rear to the rear offset radio antenna.

From early 2001 the Xsara could also use the more powerful diesel engine and an output of 80 kW ( 109 hp ), which met the Euro 3 standard, order. The delivery to Germany began in May 2001.

Mid-2002, 120 kW (163 hp) VTS version has been removed from the program.

Production of the sedan and " coupe " said three-door model ended in November 2004 in favor of the successor C4. The break stayed with the 80 kW 1.6- liter 16V petrol and the diesel engine 66 kW payable until May 2006 at the program since the C4 was provided no wagon version and it still represented a discount car and highly practical.

The Xsara Picasso remained until January 2010 in the program, although in October 2006, the C4 Picasso took its successor.

Motorsport

Sébastien Loeb, the French World Rally Champion, driving a Citroën Xsara WRC as a rally racing car with which he was in 2004, 2005 and 2006 World Rally Champion in the World Rally Championship. From 2007 to 2010 he drove a Citroën C4 WRC.

Another driver was Colin McRae, who drove in 2003 with the Xsara WRC, and then got out after another lost race of the World Cup. However, he took over the wheel of a 2006 Xsaras WRC because Loeb was injured.
