Citrus Springs is a census -designated place (CDP ) in Citrus County in the U.S. state of Florida with 8,622 inhabitants ( 2010).

Geography

Citrus Springs is located approximately 20 km north- west of Inverness and about 140 kilometers north of Tampa. The CDP is crossed by U.S. Highway 41.

Demographics

According to the 2010 census, the then 8,622 inhabitants distributed to 4,017 households. The population density was 156.5 inh. / Km ². 88.9 % of the population were white, 5.1% African American, 0.4% Native American and 1.5% Asian Americans. 1.6% were members of other ethnic groups and 2.4% in different ethnic groups. 9.3% of the population were Hispanic or Latino.

In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 38.1 % of all households lived in 32.2 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 73.1 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 2.50 persons and the average family size is 2.86 people.

25.8 % of the population were younger than 20 years, 21.4% were 20-39 years old, 24.0% were 40-59 years old and 28.8 % were at least 60 years old. The median age was 43 years. 47.9 % of the population were male and 52.1% female.

The average annual income was $ 45,679, while 16.4 % of the population lived below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 94.33 % of the population spoke Spanish, 4.90% and 0.77 % spoke German.
