Cittanova

Cittanova is a southern Italian municipality ( comune ) in the province of Reggio Calabria in Calabria. The community is located about 47 kilometers northeast of Reggio Calabria and about 36 kilometers south of Vibo Valentia. Cittanova belongs to the municipalities of the Piana di Gioia Tauro. Located at the edge of the Aspromonte.

History

As the name Cittanova as New City suggests, it is a fairly recent creation. 1618, after a devastating earthquake in the seismically very active region in 1616, the small town of Casale Nuovo di Curtuladi to Castelnuovo was. And finally, with presentation of the status Città to Cittanova. In the following, or the great earthquake of 1783 also Cittanova was destroyed.

Economy and Transport

Cittanova located on a regraded section of the former State Road 111 (now: Strada Provinciale 1) of Gioia Tauro to Locri. A small railway station located on the operated for the railway Calabria narrow gauge railway (950 mm track width ) of Gioia Tauro to Cinquefrondi.
