Cittareale

Cittareale is a municipality in the province of Rieti in the Italian region Latium, located about 484 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012).

Geography

Cittareale is located 125 km northeast of Rome and 52 km north-east of Rieti. It is situated above the valley of the Velino, which rises in the municipal area, surrounded by the mountains of Abruzzo Reatinischen, at the foot of Monte Cambio ( 2084 m). The municipality covers an altitude 757-1825 m slm

The municipality consists of the villages of Ara dei Colli, Bricca, Cagnerone, Ca Jenco, Cesetta, Collenasso, Colli Celle, Conca, Folcara, Le Rose, Marianitto, Matrecciano, Mola Coletta, Pallottini, Santa Croce, Santa Giusta, Sacco, Scanzano, Sorecone, Trimezzo, Vetozza and Vezzano.

The municipality is located in the seismic zone 1 ( high risk ).

Cittareale is a member of the Comunità Montana del Velino.

The nearby towns are Accumoli, Amatrice, Borbona, Cascia (PG), Leonessa, Monte Reale ( AQ), Norcia (PG) and Posta.

Traffic

Cittareale located 5 km from the Via Salaria SS 4, which leads from Rome over Ascoli Piceno to the Adriatic coast at Porto d' Ascoli, removed. The nearest railway station is on the railway line Antrodoco Terni - Sulmona in 29 km distance.

History

The municipality was founded in the city of the Sabines Falacrinae that is excavated since 2005 under the direction of Giovanna Alvino of the heritage authority of Lazio, at the suburb of Celle coli.

The nucleus of the present village to have been founded in 1261 by Manfred von Staufen. After the fall of the Hohenstaufen the place came to the Kingdom of Naples.

Policy

Giuseppe Fedele (civic list Insieme per Cittareale ) was elected in May 2011 to the mayor. He replaced Pierluigi Feliciangeli, who did not run.
